Radio Scotland - Ship and Location

Comet

Built: 1905

Weight: 500 tons

Length: 90’ (27.4m)


The Comet  was initially anchored off Scotland’s east coast, in international waters off Dunbar. (December 1965-April 1966)

The radio ship was moved to the west coast, in what were thought to be international waters off Troon. (May 1966 –7th April 1967)

After prosecution for broadcasting within British territorial waters the Comet was briefly located off Ballywater, Northern Ireland (7th April 1967 –May 1967) before being towed back to a position off  Fifeness on the east coast (May – 17th August 1967)
